Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Workforce (Early Years Educator) – QCF

This qualification has been developed for people wanting to work in the children and young people’s workforce. It is ideal for learners who wish to be qualified as Early Years Educators.

The qualification will help learners build the knowledge and skills needed when working under supervision with children and young people from birth to 5 years of age.

What does the qualification cover?

The Qualification is structured around four themes:

•  Theme 1: Health and well-being
•  Theme 2: Legislation, frameworks and professional practice
•  Theme 3: Play, development and learning for school readiness
•  Theme 4: Professional development

Who is it suitable for?

This qualification is suitable for a range of learners, either working or wishing to work in early years education and care.

What are the entry requirements?

You will need to be at least 16 years of age.

GCSE Grade C or above in English and Maths.

ICT Qualification to be gained by the end of the course.

How is it assessed?

To gain this qualification the learner will need to:
• Pass all units
• Complete longitudinal study
• Show competence in a real work environment
Do you need to be working to take the qualification?

Learners will need to be working, volunteering or on a practical placement as an important part of the assessment process involves evaluating skills in real working situations. CACHE recommends 350 hours across the age ranges.

How long does it take to complete?

This qualification will take 12-18 months to complete depending on experience.  Apprenticeships are required to be a minimum of a year and 1 day.

What could this qualification lead to?

Upon achievement of this qualification learners will gain their licence to practise and it is intended that learners will be able to enter the workforce as Early Years Educators.

Learners can progress into various job roles in the statutory, voluntary or private sectors such as:

•  Assistant in Children’s Centres
•  Practitioner in nursery schools
•  Practitioner in reception classes in primary schools
•  Pre-school worker

What related qualifications can you progress to?

This qualification allows progression on to Level 4 in Early Years Education.
