Activity Leadership Level 2

This qualification underpins the role of an activity leader in the active leisure sector and is appropriate for individuals who are planning, delivering and evaluating activity sessions.

What does the qualification cover?

All learners must successfully complete the following units:

  • Support the work of the team and organization (Y/601/4483) – this unit is worth 2 credits
  • Prepare for activity sessions (F/601/5532) – this unit is worth 4 credits
  • Lead activity sessions (J/601/5533) – this unit is worth 9 credits
  • Conclude and review activity sessions (L/601/5534) – this unit is worth 4 credits
  • Promote health, safety and welfare in active leisure and recreation (D/601/4484) – this unit is worth 4 credits
  • Support equality and diversity in active leisure and recreation (H/601/4485) – this unit is worth 2 credits

Who is it suitable for?

This qualification is designed for learners working within a sport and recreation/leisure facility environment and no previous qualifications are required.

The qualification is suitable for:

  • Learners (aged 16+) working in a sport and recreation/leisure facility environment
  • Organisations with a need to train their staff to an agreed nationally recognised standard with a particular desire to improve both the current industry knowledge of staff and the service they are able to offer their customers
  • Individuals working in the industry who wish to have their experience and knowledge recognised by a formal qualification

What are the entry requirements

This qualification is open to all (Learners aged 16+) and there are no previous qualifications or specific entry requirements. It is aimed specifically at those who already work, or aspire to work, in a physical education and school sport setting.

How long does it take to complete?

Guided Learning Hours are 224.  Apprenticeships are required to be a minimum of a year and 1 day.

What could this qualification lead to?

The Active IQ Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Activity Leadership (QCF) is aimed at individuals working, for example, as Activity Leaders, Outdoor Activity Instructors and Community Leaders and will confirm a learner’s competence in an occupational role to the standards required.

What related qualifications can you progress to?

The Active IQ Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Activity Leadership enables progression to the Intermediate Activity Leadership Apprenticeship and the Advanced Apprenticeship in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Physical Education and School Sport. It also provides direct progression to the following qualifications:

  • Level 3 Certificate In Supporting the Delivery of Physical Education and School Sport (QCF)
  • Level 3 Coaching qualifications
