SUPPORTING CHILDREN’S LEARNING ACTIVITIES

  • To provide a high standard of care for all children attending the nursery.
  • To ensure the nursery is an environment which is safe, homely, welcoming, stimulating, friendly and fun.
  • To have support in helping to plan and implement an appropriate program of planned and spontaneous activities which are both adult led and child initiated for children in your care which is developmentally appropriate as detailed in ‘The Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage’ until you feel confident and knowledgeable in doing this independently.
  • To take responsibility for children participating in activities, either as a group of children or children working independently.
  • Work with other members of the nursery team to take responsibility for children working in areas either inside or outside, facilitating and provide appropriate levels of support and interaction.

 

PLANNING AND RECORDING PROGRESS

  • To have support by a named buddy in contributing to and implement a curriculum for each and every child with reference to ‘The Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage’ which is developmentally appropriate following children’s interests and individual learning styles.
  • To begin and understand what it is to act as a key person to the children in a selected group by observing, evaluating, planning and supporting for their learning and development needs until it is felt you have a good understanding of the role and can do this independently.
  • To begin and understand how observations cover all areas of learning and can be used as evidence in each child’s individual ‘Learning Journey’. To undertake independently observations when you have a good understanding of what is required.
  • To begin to understand how maintaining children’s ‘Learning Journeys’ and providing regular summative assessments through the formative procedures used at the Day Nursery are important in supporting individual children in their learning and development journey.
  • To undertake independently maintenance of ‘Learning journey’s’ when you have a good understanding of what is required.
  • To keep accurate confidential records as required at the Nursery

 

LEGAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Paperwork must be up to date and correct at all times

 

REGISTERS AND DAILY DAIRIES

  • To ensure that registers and diaries are accurately maintained, ask for help and support if required.

 

ACCIDENT AND INCIDENT FORMS

  • To ensure all accident and incident forms are accurately written up dated and initialled by the nursery manager/deputy manager prior to the parents signature being sought.
  • Ensure that parents are informed of accidents/incidents as Day Nursery policies and procedures.
  • To inform the nursery manager as soon as possible of any serious accidents.

 

DEALING WITH SICK CHILDREN

  • Administer first aid at an appropriate level relevant to training received.
  • Administer medication only under the supervision of a qualified member of staff holding a current paediatric first aid certificate following all nursery policy and procedures.

 

SPECIAL DIET

  • To ensure that you are aware of any children within the nursery with any dietary or medical diet.
  • To be aware of any child who has an anaphylactic condition.
  • To help prepare and serve snacks to the children in the nursery as required.

 

PRESENTATION OF THE NURSERY

  • To ensure the nursery environment is safe, homely, welcoming, stimulating, clean and appealing to children who attend.
  • If required to change display boards and children’s individual art boards regularly (Every 6-8 weeks)
  • To ensure cupboards, shelves, draws are kept tidy.

 

RESOURCES

  • To help prepare and organise the nursery prior to the arrival of the children.
  • To ensure the availability of well maintained resources and organise to provide full access to all children.
  • To sort, tidy away and cleanse the equipment as required.
  • To assist in the stock control, organisation and care of resources ensuring that the nursery manager is made aware of supplies required prior to supplies running out.

 

SAFETY

  • To ensure at all times that the highest levels of safety are maintained in line with ‘The Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage’
  • To abide by the entire nursery’s agreed policies and procedure as detailed in the Nursery Handbook.
  • To take reasonable care of themselves and other persons who may be affected by the acts or omissions at work.
  • To co-operate with employers in order to ensure that employers’ duties can be performed and complied with.
  • To ensure that each child is collected by someone known to nursery and whom written permission is provided as per Policies and Procedures.
  • To be aware of the correct fire procedure.
  • To ensure safety requirements are met within the nursery and the garden.
  • To notify the manager immediately of all accidents, hazards, dangerous occurrences and damage.
  • To ensure that any toys with broken pieces are removed from the nursery immediately if safe to do so.
  • To remain vigilant on the nursery premises and report any security issues to the nursery manager immediately.

 

PROFESSIONAL RELATIONSHIPS WITH PARENTS

  • To develop a good relationship with parents, carers and other family members encouraging active involvement and partnership.
  • To acknowledge and respect the part played by parents in the child’s learning process and share their knowledge of their child’s learning at home to build on in the nursery and vice versa.
  • Maintaining and sharing information in the child’s personnel daily dairies and individual learning records if required
  • Maintain individual learning records and ensure they are made available to parents in the nursery if required.
  • To attend parents evenings if required (No more then twice a year)

 

COLLEAGES

  • To work as part of a team maintaining at all times a flexible, positive and cooperative team approach.
  • Offer support to new members of the team.
  • To inform the nursery manager of any problems, issues, changes or complaints.

 

OTHER PROFESSIONALS

  • To develop welcoming co-working practises with other colleagues from outside agencies, such as Ofsted, Environmental Health, Health Visitors, Speech Therapists, etc.
  • Attend and participate in meetings as required.

 

PERSONNAL DEVELOPMENT

  • To attend out of hours staff meetings, planning meetings and professional development training events ( Compulsory 4 per year )
  • To make yourself aware of changes within the childcare field., evaluate your practise and positive moves towards improving your practice for the benefit of yourself and the children in the setting.
  • To work as part of a team in a flexible and positive manner

 

OTHER DUTIES

  • To carry out duties which from time to time may be considered relevant to the post and within the scope of the post holder

 

HOURS

  • 38hrs per week to be scheduled between 8am and 6pm Mon-Frid.
  • 4 full 8 hours days and one shorter day to allow for study
